Halo: Reach GameInformer February Issue

So as some of you may know, the February issue of GameInformer contained all of the new information about Halo: Reach. Here’s a page by page summary, complete with pictures. These screencaps are not mine, and unfortunately I do not have the first 2 pages. I apologize for the incovenience.


Page 1 & 2

Summarization: New plot, not from the novel Fall of Reach (By Eric Nylund, 2001). You will be playing as a new Spartan III in Noble Team, a squad made up of Spartan IIIs and one Spartan II.

  • Carter: Squad leader and one of the two original remaining squad members.
  • Jorge: Spartan II, heavy weapons/demolitions.
  • Kat: Second in command and the other original surviving squad member.
  • Emile: Skull painted on his helmet and a “Strong silent type”.
  • Jun: Sniper of the squad.

Page 3 & 4

The first mission hints at the presence of human insurrectionalists in the game, though unconfirmed. Bungie is focusing a lot on making the Covenant “scary” enemies again, and they’ve done a pretty good job with the grunt in my opinion *Top right* you’ll also see that the marines are more…realistic looking. Hopefully they’ll actually be some help to us this game :D Bungie also has given graphics and animation HUGE upticks in Reach, teaming up with a professional company in the field to help them do it. A new enemy type “Skirmishers” *Bottom Left* are portrayed as “Cousins to the Jackals” they fight in packs and try to flank you.

Pages 5 & 6

The elites are back as well! Unconfirmed as yet if the brutes will be back as well, but elites will definitely be leading again! We’ll be seeing much larger battles in Reach. In Halo 3 they had “About 20 AIs on the field at a time”. Now they say they can have 40 AIs and 20 vehicles! This gives a new look on Halo Reach’s battle capacity.  The health system is back, and that means no more easy going shields! Bungie puts the damage at somewhere between the ODST’s damage stretch and the old Master Chief. The Spartans may not be ODSTs, but they can be hurt. Two new weapons, the One-Shot, mid range Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) and the Needle Rifle which is a headshot capable. Three individual hits from the needle rifle will “Super combine and explode”. Not something you want to happen :/ We have a new aircraft type, the Falcon, and the weapons have all had an audio overhaul in their shooting sounds.

Pages 7 & 8

We have a new assassination option in campaign now. This is giving us a new “stealth” option that wasn’t really available before. There are new “Armor Abilities” like camo and sprinting that can be changed out, or exchanged for another. Unkown if this or a variation will be in multiplayer. We don’t know anything new about multiplayer yet, but that we can expect AT LEAST the features we got in Halo 3 for it.

Keep an eye on GameInformer’s Halo Reach Hub since they’ll be updating it throughout January and February. The next update is tomorrow!

Personally. I’m looking forward to playing with multiple Spartans, and I can’t wait for the large scale battles. The new needle rifle I’m reserving  judgement on for now, but the DMR is looking great, and I can’t wait to see the weapon enhancements. This campaign is looking like it will pound 2 and 3’s into the ground, and even be better than Halo 1’s was. Can’t wait to see more of this, including some more information on the new species of enemies.

    although I expend the vast majority of of my day on the net taking part in video games like facebook poker or petville, I nevertheless like to put aside some time to search a handful of sites now and then and I’m fortunate to report this recent article is frankly quite effective and appreciably more desirable than 1 / 2 the various waste I read today , at any rate i’m off to have fun with a smattering of hands of facebook poker
