Spec Ops: The Line at first glance looks like a very generic “just another” third person shooter. Saying that a shooter in the games industry is unique right now is like saying it’s surprising to find a teacher in a school. Unlike other games however, Spec Ops: The Line isn’t trying to daze our eyes with flashy meaningless stunts or flashy set pieces. The goal the game designers had when developing Spec Ops: The Line is to take the collective desensitized shooter population in gaming and give them a good hard shake with difficult bloody decisions and a hazy feeling much more like what a real battlefield is like. This game takes place in Dubai, but the location shouldn’t be nearly as important to you as who you’ll be fighting, that is, you don’t know. The true enemies in the game are kept shady, hiding behind terrified US soldiers and various “People with guns” groups that you will come across during the game. As opposed to the simple sectional treatment that many shooters give their enemies, the simplest being just calling them by nation, this should hopefully be a great reality treatment for gamers, and it is coming in 2012 published by 2K Games.
